Students of Year win scholarships, prizes

Harrison Rowe and Faith McCloskey received a bucketful of scholarship cash and prizes at Tuesday’s Students of the Year banquet at the Lakeside High School Round Table Café.

The Canyon Lake students were two of the seven Elsinore Union High School District Students of the Year at their respective high schools. Harrison was male Student of the Year for Temescal Canyon HIgh School and Faith was the Student of the Year for the Keith McCarthy Academy.

Both Harrison and Faith received a $1,650 scholarship, a $100 gift from the Murrieta Chamber of Commerce, an Apple iPad from the Lake Elsinore Water District as well as a laundry basket full of gift certificates, award plaques, a Tommy Bahama chair from Costco and a coffee mug full of candy from CR and R.

The Student of the Month program is sponsored by the Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce. It honors students throughout the year from each of the district’s high schools. Those awardees are then eligible to apply for the Student of the Year Award. The winners were based on their academics, accomplishments, and activities during their senior year.

Harrison had previously been chosen as the Temescal Canyon High School April Student of the Month and Faith as the October Student of the Month for the Keith McCarthy Academy.

Harrison has lived in Canyon Lake since birth and loves fishing, paddle boarding and cycling. He was a member of his high school’s Mountain Bike Team and served as the team captain his final two years. He will be attending Southern Utah University in the fall where he will pursue a degree in Engineering Technology.

Faith was one of the Student Governing Board Representatives for the school district and represented her school at board meetings. Her responsibility on the student board was to keep the Governing Board members well informed of current and upcoming school events and to take board information back to her school.
