Finally…fashion show returns

One of the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club’s biggest annual events finally was back on the runway Friday and even a venue challenge couldn’t keep the 96 ladies in attendance from smiling from ear to ear.

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club Fashion Show, after three years of COVID-19-caused cancellations, finally took center stage. The nearly 100 in attendance were all dressed to the nines. No matter the event wasn’t held at the Canyon Lake Lodge, its home for the decades it has been an annual event. The show finally did go on and it was a hit.

The fashion show is one of the top fundraisers for the club. When the club learned that the Lodge was not available because of the construction there, another year of being canceled just wasn’t an option.

Kathy Barbay, who works closely with the Canyon Lake Senior Center, encouraged the Woman’s Club to host the event at the center.

“We all looked fabulous in our Glitz and Glamour attire,” Woman’s Club President Shawna Bowen said. “The event was so wonderfully done and the change in venue made our first fashion show in four years one to remember.”

A plated lunch was catered by Thomas Catering, there was a silent auction and the fashion show was an afternoon of pure entertainment, she said.

“It was my joy to be a part of the Glitz and Glamour luncheon,” Gloria Haslam, model chair, said. “The fashion show was a success. The models gave it their all with personality, laughter, and charm.”

Six models, all members of the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club, volunteered for the position of strutting their outfits from Chico’s, We Boutique, Armani, and the Canyon Lake Golf Pro Shop.

“The ladies were introduced, then stories were shared with the audience about each model,“ Aprile DeAnne McKinnon, the MC of the event, said. “I explained the outfits in detail, while the ladies modeled them throughout the room. I encouraged the women to dance and let loose a little. It was a lot of fun.”

Samantha Gorrell and Rose Marie Hand were the chairs of the luncheon and fashion show.

“The best part was that we had the greatest committee chairs,” Rose Marie said. “They were Models chair, Gloria Haslam; Silent Auction chairs, Linda Gavin and Pam Oskey; Table Decorations, Holli Biondi and Teri Ireland; Reservation Chair, Sue Collins; Grand Prize chairs, Vicki Young and Karen Wallace; and Music and Commentary chair, Aprile McKinnon. We also want to thank all of our guests for joining us for a great day of food, fun and fashion.”
