Tuesday Work Group turns 50

The Tuesday Work Group, a group of volunteers who have helped maintain the golf course for the past 50 years, will be honored by the Canyon Lake POA on Tuesday at the Canyon Lake Golf Course. The club will be receiving a plaque that will be installed at the 10th Hole commemorating the group’s 50 years of dedication and service to the golf course.

The Canyon Lake POA and the Tuesday Work Group invite all current, former and community members to join in this special event that will take place at the course at 10:00 a.m..

Last week, true to the types of weekly tasks the group takes on, the team cleaned out the creek on the 11th Tee by cutting down dead tree branches and removing old debris.

“It had been eight years since that area was cleaned up, so it took about 30 to 40 man hours to complete the project,” Susan FitzGerald said. “It looks great, but it was a lot of work.”

Tuesday Work Group members work closely with the Canyon Lake POA and saves the community members money by the volunteers working on projects that otherwise would need to be contracted out. The major improvements the Tuesday Work Group has taken on the last 50 years all required POA Board approval.

The Tuesday Work Group meets Tuesdays at the golf course at 7:30 a.m. for coffee, donuts and conversation before heading out to the course to work on the project for the day. The group is always looking for more volunteers.

Volunteers don’t need any experience, however, those who have a background in construction, grounds maintenance, masonry and gardening are in demand. All volunteers need is a love for the community.a
