Emergency location markers help aid 9-1-1 in finding victims

There is a purpose to all of those blue signs around Canyon Lake with large letters on them. The signs can be seen around the lake at several locations, at the parks, beaches and throughout the community.

If there is an emergency, the caller to 9-1-1 would tell the dispatch what sign they are closest to.

These location markers have a letter that the dispatch translates into latitude and longitude coordinates.

In an emergency situation, those in need can call 9-1-1 and give the letters to dispatch.

The letters are stored in the dispatch’s Computer Aided Dispatch system which gives the dispatcher the location immediately.
