Junior Women‘s Club accepting applications for scholarships

Each year the Canyon Lake Junior Women’s Club awards scholarships to students who have plans to further their education after graduating from high school. Scholarships are given to students who plan on attending a trade school, a junior college or a four-year college.

Applicants must be a resident of Canyon Lake to apply and have at least a 3.0 GPA. The deadline for applications is April 30. The club said late entries will not be reviewed. After the applications have been reviewed by the club, interviews will be scheduled May 6.

Equestrian Club offering $500 scholarship

The Canyon Lake Equestrian Club is offering its first college scholarship. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Canyon Lake high school senior.

Applicants must be residents of Canyon Lake and submit an essay to be considered for the scholarship.

The 500-words-or-less essay should describe how the applicant has committed time to helping animals in Canyon Lake, what he or she plans to study in college and how he or she plans to use that knowledge to continue helping animals.

The format of the essay should include in the upper left hand corner of the page the applicant’s full name, email address, tract-lot number, current high school, GPA, the name of the college and the planned major.

The essay should be emailed to Donna Kupke at dpkupke@yahoo.com no later than May 15. The winning recipient will be announced June 1.

P.E.O. offering scholarships to women grads, existing students

Canyon Lake P.E.O. Chapter WW is offering scholarships to senior high school women who have been accepted to a college or women who are currently enrolled in a college.

P.E.O. is an organization of women helping women to further their education. Applications can be obtained by emailing the chapter at canyonlakechapterww@gmail.com. The last day to apply is April 30.

CL Ski Club solicits scholarship applicants

Clubs and individuals are invited to apply for the Canyon Lake Ski Club’s 2023 Imre & Betsy Weil Water Ski Scholarship. The annual $500 scholarship is awarded to an individual or to a club within the United States Western Region of the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports organization.

The scholarship was endowed with a gift from Imre on his passing in 2021 and was established in 2022 to support the sport of three-event water skiing. The scholarship is named after Imre, a long-time member of the Canyon Lake Ski Club, and his wife Betsy.

The inaugural recipient last year was Kendra Nathan, a Canyon Lake skier who is now attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on an academic and waterski scholarship.

City looking for a graduating senior to give $1,500

The City of Canyon Lake wants to know how living in Canyon Lake impacts its students and what those students would do to improve Canyon Lake for future generations. And it‘s willing to pay for it.

The city is once again holding an essay contest for Canyon Lake high school seniors and will award the winner a $1,500 scholarship.

All that is needed to enter the contest is a résumé and a 500-to-750 word essay on one of the following two topics:

1) How has living in Canyon Lake made an impact on you? or 2) How would you improve Canyon Lake for future generations?

To enter, the student must reside in Canyon Lake and be a high school senior at the time of submission.

The deadline for submitting the essay and the résumé is April 20 by 5:00 p.m. and they should be submitted in PDF format via email to sgarcia@canyonlakeca.gov. All questions should be directed to City Clerk Sheryl Garcia at 951-244-2955.

Scholar/athletes sought for 9ers Golf Club scholarships

The Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club invites high school Canyon Lake seniors to apply for a Student/Athlete Scholarship to be awarded in May. Applicants must be residents of Canyon Lake, have maintained a 3.5 GPA, and have been actively involved in school activities, a sports team and community service.

Last year, the 9ers Club, with the help of the Canyon Lake golf community and many Canyon Lake businesses, awarded eight scholarships totaling $12,500 to Canyon Lake graduating seniors.

To apply for this year’s 2022-23 scholarship, graduating seniors need to obtain an application packet from the Canyon Lake Pro Shop, or from Linda Kielty of the Canyon Lake 9ers Club at her home at 22698 Calcutta Drive.

“You will be asked to fill out the application including a ‘Brag Sheet’,” Linda said. “You will need to write an essay and include recommendations from a teacher and a coach.”

Top candidates for the scholarships will be invited to interview with the 9ers Club Scholarship Committee.

Completed application packets should be returned to the Canyon Lake Golf Pro Shop or be sent to Linda no later than April 30. Questions can be addressed to Linda at 951-202-5046 or lmkrak@gmail.com.

Since 2017, the club, with the support of the golf community and Canyon Lake businesses, has raised more than $50,000 for these scholarships.

Kennedie Foundation Scholarship applications being accepted

Several Canyon Lake students have been recipients of the annual Kennedie June Von Ryan Foundation Scholarship that is once again accepting applicants from graduating seniors of Elsinore, Temescal Canyon and Lakeside High Schools. Students can get applications at www.kjvrfoundation.com or from their high school‘s success center. Previous Canyon Lake winners were Abby Siroky, Conner Strabel, Riley Smith and Kylie Strange.

The scholarship is named in honor of Kennedie, a Temescal Canyon High School student who died in a tragic car accident just outside of Canyon Lake in October 2018 at the age of 17. She was an elite water polo athlete at the school and was planning on playing the sport at the Division I level in college. The foundation honors student/athletes every year with scholarships.

Canyon Lake Woman’s Club scholarship deadline April 14

Full-time residents of Canyon Lake are encouraged to apply for the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club scholarship. The deadline for the annual scholarship application is April 14.

Applicants must have a 3.5 grade point average or higher and must be a full-time resident of Canyon Lake for at least six months prior to applying. There are applications for both high school graduates and continuing students.
