Jr. Women’s to hold ball drop, helicopter ride

The annual Canyon Lake Junior Women’s Club Golf Tournament on April 1 is so much more than foursomes hitting golf balls. It’s probably most known for its Golf Ball Drop, where hundreds of balls are dropped from a helicopter hovering over the course.

This year, in addition to the Golf Ball Drop, the club is auctioning off rides in the helicopter.

The auction for the helicopter seats is available to everyone. The pilot will transport the three individuals who bid highest to Oceanside and bring them back to Canyon Lake. Additionally, when possible, she will fly over any residences or other locations that the passengers would like to see enroute.

Following the trip, the helicopter will drop around 500 golf balls while doing a flyover of the putting green. The individual whose ball goes into the designated hole first from those dropped will receive a $1,000 prize. If no ball enters the hole, the winner will be designated from the ball that lands closest to the hole and will receive $500.

After this event concludes, the pilot will take another three passengers back to Oceanside and return to Canyon Lake. The auction for the seats will run from Sunday to midnight on March 25, with the winners being announced on March 27.

The starting bid for each seat is $100. Meanwhile, anyone can purchase the golf balls for the Golf Ball Drop. A single ball costs $10 and a pack of five is $40. For additional information visit the club’s website, www.canyonlakejwc.org.
