Women’s Golf Member/Guest Invitational next month

The Canyon Lake Women’s Golf Club invites all lady golfers with a valid handicap to its Spring Fest for Our Guests Member/Guest Invitational at the Canyon Lake Golf Course April 18.

The tournament will include a fun day of golf, lunch and cocktails on the patio, chipping contest, raffle prizes, and awards to the winners.

Entry fee is $80.00 for members and $100.00 for guests. Foursomes can include two members/two guests or one member/three guests. The deadline to enter is April 8. For more information contact Victoria Wood 951-775-8297 or Barbara Spraul 951-244-6540.

Community Garage Sale postponed until March 25-26

The Canyon Lake POA-sponsored Community Garage Sale which was to take place last Saturday and Sunday has also been postponed because of inclement weather. The Garage Sale event has been moved to March 25 and 26.

Those who had signed up to host a garage sale for the Community Garage Sale will have their original submissions added to the new map on the day they originally signed up for. Those who signed up for the February sale and would not like to be on the new map, will need to email activities@canyonlakepoa.com. Otherwise, they’ll need to do nothing to participate next month.

The community-wide garage sale allows residents to have a garage sale without obtaining a garage sale permit from the Canyon Lake POA. The last day to sign up to be on the map of garage sales and not have to pay for a garage sale permit is now March 17. To sign up go to the Canyon Lake POA website and fill out the form at www.canyonlakepoa.com/communitysale.

Residents and their guests (who need to be called in per the usual procedure) are invited to purchase items at the various garage sales that will be taking place around the community.

Junior Women’s Club chosen Business of the Month

The Canyon Lake Junior Women’s Club was selected by the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors as the February 2023 Business of the Month.

The Chamber said the club was chosen for its tireless work to raise money for philanthropic efforts in Canyon Lake and the surrounding communities. The Junior Women’s Club provides scholarship awards to Canyon Lake high school seniors and assistance to community members who have suffered a loss in their family or who are battling terminal illness.

The club also hosts Rocktoberfest, an Annual Charity Golf Tournament and the Canyon Lake Tree Lighting.

Scholar/athletes sought for 2022-23 9ers Golf Club scholarships; applications being accepted now

The Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club invites high school Canyon Lake seniors to apply for a Student/Athlete Scholarship to be awarded in May. Applicants must be residents of Canyon Lake, have maintained a 3.5 GPA, and have been actively involved in school activities, a sports team and community service.

Last year, the 9ers Club, with the help of the Canyon Lake golf community and many Canyon Lake businesses, awarded eight scholarships totaling $12,500 to Canyon Lake graduating seniors.

To apply for this year’s 2022-23 scholarship, graduating seniors need to obtain an application packet from the Canyon Lake Pro Shop, or from Linda Kielty of the Canyon Lake 9ers Club at her home at 22698 Calcutta Drive.

“You will be asked to fill out the application including a ‘Brag Sheet’,” Linda said. “You will need to write an essay and include recommendations from a teacher and a coach.”

Top candidates for the scholarships will be invited to interview with the 9ers Club Scholarship Committee.

Since 2017, the club, with the support of the golf community and Canyon Lake businesses, has raised more than $50,000 for these scholarships.

Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting rescheduled to March 22

The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce Annual Membership Meeting will take place March 22 at 6:00 p.m. at the Canyon Lake Country Club.

Dinner will be served and is included with ticket purchase, which costs $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Plans and goals for the chamber will be discussed. The event will also give businesses an opportunity to meet the 2023 Board of Directors and network with other local businesses.

Guild tickets on sale for PettyBreakers Tribute Concert

The Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild is selling tickets for its next concert. The PettyBreakers Tribute Band will take the stage on April 1.

The band is a tribute band to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:00 p.m. To purchase tickets go to www.brownpapertickets.com.

C.L.E.A.R inviting youth to lifeguard camp

The C.L.E.A.R Foundation in partnership with the California State Parks and Lake Perris are holding a junior lifeguards camp June 19-30 for ages 8-15.

Sponsorships will be available again this year for those who want to attend and need financial assistance to do so.

EVMWD recognized as 2022 Inland Empire Top Workplace

Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District, which provides water services for most of Canyon Lake and leases the lake to the Canyon Lake POA for recreation, was recently recognized as a Top Workplace in the Inland Empire for the fourth year in a row.

This recognition is based on the results of an independent survey of the district‘s employees, which was conducted by Energage, a leading research firm specializing in workplace culture. The survey measures factors such as employee engagement, organizational health, and leadership. The EVMWD received high marks in all areas, ranking fourth in medium sized businesses.

The district‘s employees reported feeling a strong sense of pride in their work, and praised the organization for its commitment to its employees and its mission of providing reliable water and wastewater service to the community.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as a top workplace for the fourth year in a row,” Greg Thomas, general manager at EVMWD, said. “Our employees are the heart and soul of our organization, and their dedication and commitment to our customers is unmatched. Center calling all seniors to join in on game days

The Canyon Lake Senior Center is inviting the community’s seniors to a couple of days of interesting and fun games on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Hand and Foot, a quick moving card game with the objective to be the first to rid a player‘s cards and for the team to take the most points is played on Monday’s at the Senior Center from noon to 4:00 p.m.

The Mahjongg Group meets on Tuesdays between noon and 4:00 p.m. at the Senior Center. Both Chinese and American styles are played.

POA seeking help with security camera footage

The Canyon Lake Property Owners Association is asking its members to volunteer to share home security camera footage when a criminal incident occurs near their home.

In partnership with the Riverside County Sheriff‘s Department, this program allows community residents with surveillance systems to voluntarily add themselves to a list that the Riverside County Sheriff‘s Department and the Canyon Lake POA may refer to if a criminal incident occurred nearby.

With the increased popularity of personal surveillance systems, including simple doorbell cameras, for residents and property owners, the use of the footage from these cameras has become useful to law enforcement. As crimes occur near a home with security cameras, owners may not be aware that their system may have captured helpful information that could help solve the crime.

After signing up on the Canyon Lake POA website for this program, when these criminal incidents occur, the Canyon Lake POA and/or law enforcement may contact those on the sign up list near the incident to help solve the crime by requesting to review their video footage their system may have captured. This information or footage may assist in apprehending and prosecuting the criminals involved.

Members would only be contacted by the Canyon Lake POA or law enforcement to request permission to view your camera footage if there is a criminal incident near their home.

“You are not giving the Canyon Lake POA or law enforcement access to your system or footage, but instead agreeing to be contacted if you have a camera that may have been in the vicinity of a criminal incident,” the Canyon Lake POA said. “Your participation in providing any camera footage is strictly voluntary. Information provided to the Canyon Lake POA regarding your camera systems will be for official use only. Your personal information will remain confidential and will not be distributed.’

Video surveillance is one of the best methods for apprehending criminals and convicting suspects caught in the act of committing a crime, the Canyon Lake POA said. While many own and operate personal surveillance systems that could aid in solving crimes, law enforcement officials are not always aware of who may have this potentially vital information.

By signing up for this program, residents are added to a list that may be quickly referenced to identify nearby cameras that may have captured criminal activity.

Chamber seeks volunteers for positions on its board

The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to fill the specific positions on the board of Director of Events, Director of Outreach and Director of Sponsorship.

The Director of Outreach is a position for a high-spirited, personable and vibrant individual who is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with surrounding communities and agencies. They will be tasked to spread awareness and increase the visibility of the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce.

The Director of Events position is responsible for fostering a positive and supportive relationship between chamber members and the community at large by coordinating community and business member events.

The Director of Sponsorship is responsible for soliciting sponsorship and donations on behalf of the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce. These sponsorships and donations include annual sponsorships to support operational needs and specific sponsorships to support the member and community events organized by the board.

Those applying for these positions on the board must be a member of the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce and it is preferred that the applicant have an affiliation with a local business.

Those interested in any of these volunteer positions with the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce should submit a short bio, a writeup describing the interest for serving on the board, and what contributions can be made to the Canyon Lake Chamber and/or Board of Directors to CanyonLakeChamber@outlook.com.
