Platinum wins Co-Ed Sunday Softball title

Canyon Lake Co-Ed Sunday Softball team Team Platinum took home the Championship Belt on Sunday at Gault Field, defeating Team Teal, 8-7, in extra innings to conclude the season.

“The final game was tough on both teams and, of course, we went into extra innings. It was an awesome game,” Gina Pinto of Team Platinum said. “Brian Campbell, shortstop for Team Platinum, hit a solid shot to centerfield, getting a beautiful triple past a diving centerfielder.”

Gina hit in the final run to secure the team‘s championship win.

The road to the championship game was as tightly contested as was the final. Platinum defeated Team Black, 8-7.

Team Platinum, which was the Number 1 seed, beat Team Black, which was the Number 4 seed, in the semifinals with another 8-7 victory and advanced to the championship game.

The Platinum versus Black game was intense with Platinum being down a player, Rihanna T, who is the team’s catcher and outfielder, after suffering a torn muscle.

Platinum speedster centerfielder Josh Selley made his triple look effortless in the final inning. Lori Smith, Platinum‘s 3rd baseman, sealed the victory with a walkoff double to send the team to the championship.

Meanwhile, Team Teal, the Number 3 seed, defeated Team Neon, 14-3 before advancing to the championship game after defeating Team Baby Blue, 14-4.

“It was a rough double header against two gnarly great teams,” Platinum’s Lori said of Team Teal’s path to the final.
