Ladies Pickleball Tourney played under stars

A Ladies-Only Mexican-Themed Pickleball Tournament was played out under the night sky after it had been postponed two days earlier because of inclement weather.

The tournament, originally set for Saturday, was played on Monday with 20 participants who enjoyed not only great tournament play, but a catered Mexican dinner.

The ladies were separated into two different brackets and competed with a different partner in each of four games.

The player who achieved the highest total points would be the overall winner.

Gift cards to the Canyon Lake Lodge and Canyon Lake Country Club were awarded to the top three winners with the highest point totals in each bracket.

In Bracket A, Michell Wynn went undefeated in all four games with her four different partners and scored a perfect score of 44 points. Second place was a tie between Kimberly Keigwin and Tami Bowan, each with 41 points out of the 44 possible.

Beth Crane rounded out the top finishers in a very competitive bracket, taking third place with 39 points.

The B Bracket was owned by Joan Ke who placed first with 43 points. Taking second place with 36 points was newcomer Alissia Morris who just started playing pickleball less than a month ago. Third place ended in a three-way tie between Jassibeth Oro, Amy Duffney and Brittany Tibbet, each scoring 35 points.

This tournament was the first for each of the ladies, many of whom had only just started playing in the last year.

The Canyon Lake Pickleball Club hosts several free tournaments each year for its 470 club members.

“Pickleball is fun and easy to learn, and great for members of all ages,” Club Secretary Steve Libring said.
