Firefighters visit kids at Canyon Lake Library

To help promote National Fire Prevention Month and Fire Prevention Week, members of the Canyon Lake Fire Department visited kids during Toddler Storytime at the Canyon Lake Library last week.

Fire Engine 1, nicknamed “The Black Pearl,” made a special guest appearance in front of the library as the junior firefighters sat in awe as Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse, Fire Captains Cory Willis and Brennain Gorter and Engineer Nate Garcia educated the young firefighters on the awareness of fire safety and prevention.

The special event for the young firefighters began with an animated reading of “The Story of Sparky the Fire Dog” by FireFighter Engineer Nate Garcia.

The young ones enjoyed seeing Fire Captain Brennain Gorter all dressed in full gear and they especially enjoyed having the larger-than-life firefighters come down to their level as the firefighters explained the importance of fire safety and prevention.

The young firefighters received bright red firefighter helmets and sticker badges before being given a full tour of “The Black Pearl.”

The Canyon Lake Library staff said they were grateful the fire department would visit the library and bring their world to life in front of the children during their visit.
