Canyon Lake Woman’s Club receives Proclamation from city

A City Proclamation in recognition of the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club’s 50-year anniversary was presented to the club’s president by the City of Canyon Lake last week at the City Council meeting.

City Council Member Kasey Castillo presented Shawna Bowen, the Woman’s Club president, with the proclamation on behalf of the city.

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club was formed on Oct. 18, 1972 and is a non-profit organization that raises funds for student scholarships, individuals and charities in need. The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club is one of the oldest clubs in Canyon Lake and remains very active in the community.

“The ages for the ladies in the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club ranges from 18 to 95,” Shawna said. “Many of the women are active in other organizations and clubs throughout the community. This is a group of goers and doers.”

Shawna chose the club’s 50-year theme, “Fun with a Purpose,” which was the same theme the club chose during the first year of the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club.

“The theme to this day embodies 50 years of community engagement,” she said. “The organization has donated more than $600,000 in its 50-year history.”

The Woman’s Club continues to host a variety of philanthropic events with the primary fundraisers being the annual Holiday Home Tour and Fashion Show.

“A shining example of the Woman’s Club philanthropy is its major role in the opening of the Canyon Lake Library back in 1980,” Shawna said. “It later became part of the Riverside County Library System.”

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club invites all women of any age to attend a meeting on the third Wednesday of each month held in the Holiday Bay Room at the Canyon Lake Lodge. Vendor shopping begins at 9:30 a.m.
