Tuesday Work Group about to enter 50th year of service

The Canyon Lake Tuesday Work Group can be seen most Tuesdays out on the golf course taking care of business. Members of the group make sure the course is well maintained as they work alongside the Canyon Lake POA management and operations department.

The Tuesday Work Group will be celebrating its 50th year in 2023.

On Tuesday, the group of men and women came ready to work. Some were working on breaking up damaged concrete behind the work sheds, while others took to the course to ensure the landscape along the course was manicured.

“We need to make sure the course is clean,” Bobby Pickard, one of the workers, said. “And be sure that there’s lots of greenery to look at while playing golf.”

Three of the ladies who showed up Tuesday were Kelly Clement, Heidi Currie, who is the new Chamber of Commerce Administrative Services Manager, and Susan Prince, who is now the secretary of the Tuesday Work Group.

The group consists of people of all walks of life.

“We have retired engineers, contractors, welders, police officers and firefighters, to name just a few of the backgrounds of this group,” TWG Chairman Eric Schrader said.

Susan said she really enjoys working with the various members of the group.

“There’s a wealth of information to learn from this group and I am so glad I joined it,” she said. “When I moved to the lake about a year and a half ago, I lost my dad. Now that I’m a part of this group, I have a whole group of dads and uncles who I know will take care of us. This is a great place to come when I need some fatherly advice. The men here are all so good hearted.”

Group member Sam Theodora said the women in the group work just as hard as the men.

“My dad was a professional golf pro,” Heidi said. “I feel more connected to him out here on the course.”

The Tuesday Work Group is looking for more people in the community to come out and work alongside them.

“This is a great opportunity to enhance the skills you have and learn something new,” Sam said. “Joining the group is easy. Any young adult to young-at-heart adult is invited to show up on Tuesday mornings at 7:30 a.m. for a cup of coffee, some donuts, and conversation before hitting the course for that day‘s work detail. Head to the golf course maintenance yard and be willing to work or to have questions answered.”
