Charity pays off home, has booth at car show

Dwight and Cindy Johnson, Canyon Lake residents for 44 years, are sponsoring a booth at tomorrow‘s Canyon Lake Car Show in support of Tunnel to Towers, a foundation that is close to their hearts.

Dwight and Cindy’s daughter, Jennifer, a Canyon Lake native who was born and raised in the community, lost her firefighter husband John earlier this year while in the line of duty. John lost his life while fighting a house fire, leaving behind Jennifer and their two sons, Brody and Jack.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation reached out to Jennifer and told her they were going to help with her mortgage. However, after a couple of weeks, they came back and told her they would pay off her home instead, because they had enough money in the account to take care of it after receiving additional donations.

Since 9/11, The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has been helping America’s heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children. It has also helped by building custom-designed smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation isn‘t just a New York foundation. The charity spans across the country and is about family and helping the women and children who have lost their spouses in the line of duty.

The Johnsons‘ goal tomorrow at their booth is to share with the community how Tunnel to Towers got started, and how it continues to help families.

Dwight said he and his wife are looking forward to sharing with the community why Tunnel to Towers is such an amazing foundation.
