Pickleball, BBQ make for enjoyable event

A two-day tournament over the weekend let the beginners in the Canyon Lake Pickleball Club take center stage on Day 1 at its Hot August Nights Tournament. The next day was for the intermediate players to shine. Everybody participated in the BBQ following the Saturday night event.

On Friday evening, the beginner group played and many of those who participated had just signed up after attending the first free lesson to learn the game. This was their first tournament as Pickleball Club members.

Beginners Mark Tostado had a perfect score with 33 points, Anne Thompson had 32 points and John Sappington and Jason Kirkish both scored 31 points to take the top spots in the Friday night tourney.

On the second night, intermediate winners were Paul Robles, Kimberly Keigwin and Jimmy Sisco sharing first place by all being undefeated with perfect scores of 44 points. Tom Garcia and Steve Libring took second place, each scoring 36 points after winning three out of four matches. Joe Cruz took 3rd place with 31 points.

“It was a beautiful summer evening watching the sunset on the lake and enjoying the fabulous BBQ dinner supplied by the club,” Club Secretary Steve Libring said. “Many of these players had never played until two months ago after taking advantage of the club’s free lessons. It was great to see them all do so good and have so much fun.”

The Canyon Lake Pickleball Club has grown to 444 members and Steve said there is room for more.

“We invite anyone wanting to learn the sport to reach out to us,” Steve said. “For more information about joining the Club, wanting free instructions, learning skills, game rules and strategy, please contact me at steve.libring@gmail.com.”
