POA to fill board vacancy Monday from pool of seven applicants

After a surprise resignation of Canyon Lake Property Owners Association Board Director and Secretary Brian Bock, the four remaining board members will select his replacement at a special meeting Monday.

After the resignation, the board opened up a period where members of the association could apply for consideration for the appointment. The seven individuals who applied are Dan Birch, Alex Cook, Carl Gardner, Paul Hawker, Joe Kamashian, Jeanne OʹDell and Kara Weinraub.

The four existing members of the Board of Directors will consider the appointment at the Special Regular Session Board Meeting on Monday at 6:00 p.m. at the Canyon Lake Lodge. Members may attend in person, online through Zoom at vm.clpoa.net, or watch live on the CLPOA Facebook page @Canyon
LakePOA.

If appointed, the new director would serve for the remainder of Brianʹs 2021/23 term which ends in May.

Brian, toward the conclusion of the August board meeting, announced his resignation via Zoom from a hotel room where he was away on business and a trip with his family where he was coaching his son in an international tournament.

“I need to focus on work and family commitments first and foremost,” Brian said as he announced to the board his resignation. “Moreover, we, the board, both the original directors and those newly elected, have placed our property owners association and its members in a better and more stable position than it’s been in for years, and frankly, for the future as well.”

Brian was elected to a two-year term in May last year. He was chosen as the board’s secretary by the other members of the board and was serving in that position at the time of his resignation. His resignation, he said in his speech at the meeting, was effective at the close of that meeting, leaving nine months for his replacement to serve before the May annual meeting.

Canyon Lake POA President Renee Griffths accepted the resignation and thanked Brian for his service.

“I know it was a difficult decision because of your undeniable love and passion for this community,” Renee said. “We see you out and about. I know we’re going to continue to see that. I thank you so much for everything that you have done, for your input in our executive sessions and our regular sessions.”

Renee then immediately called for applicants to submit papers to be considered to replace Brian on the board. The four members of the board will review the seven applicants and name the new director on Monday.

The agenda is posted online at www.clpoa.com/boardagendas. Comments to the board may be sent directly to board@canyonlakepoa.com.

In Brian’s resignation comments he said he felt that the board had served and worked together well.

“I think we have re-established a sense of control and calm many would say had not been seen prior,” he said. “This is not with regret or misgiving that I now step away, but rather with positivity and assurances that what I and others desired to have happen here did, and that is not easily said when it comes to entities like this.”

He said he felt that the community needed a director who could focus more on the job then he now has the time and energy for.

“It is in Canyon Lake’s families’, including my own, best interest that someone who can dedicate more time and new energy to this role takes my place,” Brian said. “Good luck.”

He expressed gratitude for his time on the board and with working with fellow directors.

“It was a pleasure to be part of helping run the greatest and arguably the largest, most complex…I don’t think anybody can doubt that…association in California and likely the nation,” he said. “Thank you to all of the residents of Canyon Lake for putting your faith in me and let’s all remember to be the change and keep Canyon Lake as great as it is.”
