9ers Golf Club distributes eight scholarships

Members of the Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club hopped into their golf carts and paraded around Canyon Lake stopping at each of the eight graduating high school seniors to deliver oversized checks representing a total of $12,500 in scholarship monies.

The Sunday caravan marked the conclusion of the scholarship season during which the club held numerous fundraising events to collect funds for the annual scholarships.

“The 9er’s worked very hard in the past year to raise monies for this specific purpose,” the club’s Mavis Schutz said. “Our goal is to give back to the seniors of Canyon Lake.”

Those who received the scholarships had applied and were qualified to receive the college funding. The criteria to apply for the scholarships were that recipients must live in Canyon Lake, have at least a 3.5 GPA, have been active in school activities and community service and be scholar athletes.
