Those living alone invited to meet at church

Those living alone are invited to a May 21 luncheon at the Canyon Lake Community Church. The church’s Priscilla Circle will present its spring PLAN luncheon in Building C. PLAN stands for People Living Alone Now.

The luncheon is free and not only for Community Church members. The luncheon theme is Armed Services Day, so each participant is asked to wear red, white, and blue.

Lynda Ofstad, Priscilla Circle Chairwoman, said that about 100 to 120 people usually attend the PLAN luncheon. The menu is fried chicken, salad, cole slaw, beans, and watermelon. Desserts will be made by Priscilla member Rita Robles, and include apple pie, cherry pie and cake pops.

There will be themed door prizes at the luncheon and patriotic music will be played by Sheila Ryker, while the audience sings American favorites.

PLAN luncheons have been taking place for over 11 years, with a brief hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. Priscilla Circle was started more than 12 years ago by Alice Gray in honor of Priscilla Coleman.

Joan Ellett heads up the planning and decorating committee. There are three PLAN luncheons a year. PLAN participants hear from their group leaders several times a year, with cards for Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and sometimes for their birthdays. Priscilla Circle’s mission is to offer friendship, fellowship and love to those who may be lonely and needing companionship.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the festivities start at noon. Call the church at 951-244-1877 or Joan Ellett at 951-941-0859 to make a reservation.
