Jim Messina sings to sold out Holiday Bay Room audience

Who would have known Jim Messina was suffering from laryngitis Saturday night during a sold-out concert where he sang for 75 minutes, belting out his hits from the past 50 years?

The superstar from Loggins and Messina and two other well-known bands, took the stage in the Holiday Bay Room in front of  340 concert goers and performed with gusto, despite being sick.

The concert was put on by the Canyon Lake POA and is one of the concerts in the Concerts at the Lodge series.

Jim is a former member of the folk rock band, Buffalo Springfield, a founding member of the rock band Poco and half of well-known soft rock duo, Loggins and Messina.

World-renowned Spanish guitarist, David Maldonado was the opening act and performed for 30 minutes hits mostly from his Davcas XX album, which was on the billboard charts for 39 weeks and was a Number 1 album on iTunes.

According to concert producer Doug Schultz, David is one of the best Spanish guitarists in the world.

After a short break, Doug introduced Jim Messina who performed a 17-song set which included hits from all three of his bands. He ended the evening with an encore of Your Mama Don’t Dance.

“Jim is one of the kindest, most humble performers I have worked with,” Doug said. “Despite being sick, Jim made jokes and gave the Canyon Lake audience a wonderful concert performance.”

The Concerts at the Lodge series includes a variety of different types of bands. Country, soft rock, heavy metal and other genres of music have been on the stage for the series.

“With such a diversified concert line-up of actual recording artists, it’s so fulfilling to me to see a different audience at each show,” Doug said. “Depending on the genre, audiences differ, but all are so appreciative for their awesome concert experience.”
