New Fire Department holds Open House at Station 1

Hundreds of Canyon Lakers eagerly entered the refurbished Fire Station 1 on Vacation Drive Saturday to get up and personal with the station, fire engines and the new Canyon Lake Fire Department personnel.

The Open House, hosted by the City of Canyon Lake, commemorated the formation of the city’s new fire department that began its service on Jan. 1. City officials from surrounding cities and other politicians and dignitaries were in attendance.

A formal presentation with speeches and introductions took place at the onset of the Open House, which was followed by tours of the station and of the new fire engine, a helicopter and other equipment. All members of the fire department were in attendance.

City Manager Chris Mann made official introductions, followed by speeches from Canyon Lake Mayor Jeremy Smith and Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse.

Jeremy thanked everyone who made the opening of the Fire Department possible and talked about the hard work that went into making the department a reality for the City of Canyon Lake.

Jeff, in a heartfelt speech, thanked the community, the city, the surrounding communities and all those who helped make his job a little easier in getting the fire department up and running.

Jeff introduced his Canyon Lake Fire Department team. He first introduced Battalion Chief Mike Samuels, and said Mike is considered second in command, however, he said Mike isn’t just his second, he’s his partner.

Jeff then introduced the Captains, Engineers, Firefighters and Reserve Firefighters. He also introduced Administrative Assistant/Analyst Bailey Ward who Jeff said keeps the station running smoothly.

After the short ceremony, the CLAMs Club donated a check for a new barbecue for the station.

Complimentary food from The Urban Craft Eatery was provided by the city for all those who attended the Open House.
