Canyon Lake Library announces its March events

March is going to be a busy month at the Canyon Lake Library in the Canyon Lake Town Center.

“We are excited to announce that our library is helping to promote In-N-Out Burger’s Cover-to-Cover Club Reading Program,” Canyon Lake Library Branch Manager Kim Pike said. “It will start tomorrow (Saturday) will last through April 16.”

Children ages 4-12 are eligible to receive a Valued Guest Card for every five books read. There is a limit of three Valued Guest Cards during the program. Valued Guest Cards can be redeemed for one hamburger or cheeseburger at In-N-Out Burgers restaurants.

To participate, children need only come to the library and register. They will be given a personal Reading Log to track their progress. When the log is completed, the child needs to just bring it into the library to receive the Valued Gift Card.

Every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. is Toddler Storytime. The program is ideal for children ages 1 to 6. Librarians Miss Ginny or Miss Gretchen hold the storytime in the Meeting Room where they share their favorite stories and a free craft.

Homework Help is available Wednesday afternoons from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students can receive help with their homework from a library staff member or volunteer.

The first and third Saturdays are our Bilingual Toddler Storytime. Miss Allison leads the storytime and reads children’s stories in both Spanish and English.

The Tales for Tails program is perfect for children who are shy or more comfortable reading to animals. Maya is a Pet Partners Read With Me therapy dog that loves to listen to kids read.

“Maya’s favorite book is Marley and Me, but any story will do,” Kim said. “She doesn’t care if all the words are pronounced correctly or skipped all together. She just wants to listen.”

Maya’s Tales for Tails takes place on March 14 and March 28 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Adult Reading Club meets on March 28 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to discuss “The Four Winds” by Kristin Hannah. Extra copies of the book are available to pick up at the library or can be checked out as an eBook or audiobook through the Cloud Library app.

The March Take-n-Make craft is a spring butterfly. Kits contain all of the necessary supplies.

The library is also looking for volunteers to help with programs and upcoming events. Applications are available at rivlib.net or in the library.

The library is now selling used books for only 25 cents to $2.00. A small section dedicated to donated or withdrawn items is available for purchase. The proceeds go towards event entertainment and giveaways, materials for crafting events, or other necessary equipment.
