Lucky Duck Derby duckies are going fast

The Family Matters Club’s 2nd Annual Lucky Duck Derby duckies are going fast. The lucky duckies are half way sold out and the race is fast approaching.

“Get your quackers before they’re gone so you won’t be left out of the race,” Shawna Bowden, the club’s founder, said. “If interested in getting in on the duck race, and helping Family Matters in their continued philanthropy work for the families and children of Canyon Lake, reach out today and adopt a duck for the race.”

Race day is March 6 at 3:00 p.m. at the Lodge pool. Adopting ducks are $3.00 for one, $2.00 for two, $6.00 for 10 and $15.00 for 20.

Cajun appetizers to be served at Travel Club Happy Hour

A Happy Hour New Orleans Style event is being held next month by the Canyon Lake Travel Club and the community is invited. The March 11 party will be held at the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge on from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Music will be provided by Rob Robinson and the menu will be Cajun appetizers.

Cost is $35.00 for members and $40.00 for non members. Reservation deadline is March 1.

Junior Tennis lessons available for kids, 6-12

Canyon Lake kids ages six to 12 interested in learning a new sport or maybe perfecting their game are being invited to participate in lessons at the Canyon Lake Tennis Courts.

The lessons will be given by Canyon Lake Head Tennis Pro Bobby Kielty on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Beginner and Intermediate levels will include tennis activities such as building the participant’s speed, agility, strength and more.

CL teens invited to lifeguard tryouts

Talented Canyon Lake teens looking for a summer job are being invited to lifeguard tryouts to qualify as a lifeguard for the California State Parks. Lifeguard tryouts will be held on April 23 at Moreno Beach in Lake Perris.

Lifeguards that make the cut will be paid to train and then be hired for the summer, which goes to the end of August. The hourly rate of pay is $17.73

To qualify to try out, participants must be 16 years of age and be able to swim 1,000 yards in under 20 minutes, followed by a run, swim and run.

To try out, come in a swimsuit or triathlon suit (females one piece) and goggles. The California State Parks are looking to hire 20 new guards this year.

CL student makes President’s List

Canyon Laker Riley Franzo is among the almost 500 students at Western New England University recently named to the Fall Semester 2021 President’s List. Students are named to the President’s List for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.80 or higher.

Riley is working toward a BSE in Biomedical Engineering.

Western New England University is located in Springfield, Massachusetts and is a private, nationally ranked and comprehensive institution with a focus on preparing work-ready and world-ready graduates. The school’s 215-acre suburban campus serves more than 3,700 students.
