Jenna Daniel named to University of Alabama Dean’s List

Canyon Lake’s Jenna Daniel was named to The University of Alabama Dean’s List for Fall Semester 2021. A total of 11,979 students enrolled during the fall 2021 term at The University of Alabama made the dean’s list with academic records of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale), or the president’s list with academic records of 4.0 (all A’s). The University of Alabama dean’s and president’s lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or to undergraduate students who take less than a full course load. The University of Alabama, part of The University of Alabama System, is the state’s flagship university and is located in Tuscaloosa, AL.

David Nail kicks off Concerts at the Lodge Series February 12

David Nail, a country music star with four studio albums, 12 charted hit singles and 13 music videos, takes the Canyon Lake Lodge stage Feb. 12 as the first of the Concerts at the Lodge.

David was an ACM nominee twice and a Grammy nominee once. His concert promises to be a powerful acoustic show, Doug Schultz, producer for Concerts at the Lodge, said. For tickets visit www.canyonlake.com/concerts. General admission is $39.00 and VIP tickets are $59.00. David hit the music world in 2002 with his single “Memphis” from an unreleased album from Mercury Records Nashville. Five years later, he signed with MCA Nashville where he released four studio albums, “I’m About to Come Alive,” “The Sound of a Million Dreams,” “I’m on Fire” and “Fighters.”

“David will be performing as a four-piece power acoustic band,” Doug said. “With David will be a guitar player, a keyboard player, and a cajon player. The show promises to be the first of many more Concerts at the Lodge this year.”

David is on a West Coast Tour with four California dates. His third of those four will be launching the 2022 Concerts at the Lodge in Canyon Lake.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. with opening act singer/songwriter Leslie Lowe.

Jim Messina will take the Lodge stage on April 16 as the second concert in the 2022 series. Jim is one of the four performing acts of The Canyon Lake POA 2022 Concerts at the Lodge Series. The recording star is known for his songs while half of the Loggins and Messina duo.

In addition to his superstardom as Loggins and Messina, he also played previously in Buffalo Springfield and Pocco. He has sold 16 million records including five platinum albums and two gold albums. The April concert will feature a full band playing with him.

Don Dokken will be the third Lodge concert. He will perform on June 18. He is an iconic hard rock star who performed the lead vocals and was the front man for the glam metal band Dokken. The band has sold more than 10 million albums. The Blasters will be the final concert of the 2022 season. The band will perform on Aug. 27. The Blasters are a rockabilly alternative rock and roll band and have six recorded albums. It is known for its sold out high energy live performances.

Mahjongg group inviting players to Senior Center

After months of work to get the group up and running, American and Chinese versions of the Mahjongg tile game is being played every Friday at the Canyon Lake Senior Center.

On the first Friday of every month, Mahjongg is played from 9:00 a.m. to noon and all other Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The center is inviting both experienced Mahjongg players and those wishing to learn the tile game to join the group for the games.

The basic game is played with three to four players, using 144 tiles with the goal being to get a Mahjongg, which consists of getting all 14 of a player’s tiles into four sets and one pair.
