Creating interest in a community garden

Longtime Canyon Lake resident Kelly Lopez is hoping her enthusiasm for gardening is catching and can result in others helping create a Canyon Lake community garden.

Kelly knows for a community garden to be successful, it has to be the creation of those in the community. Those interested in making it happen, she said, will need to be fully involved in its creation.

She said she is willing to do the groundwork to make her dream a reality, but will need others to join her in finding the location and organizing the gardens.

Kelly has her own home garden and she said it is what keeps her moving and active.

After Kelly visited a garden in nearby Perris, she said she knew right away how great it would be for Canyon Lake to have it’s own community garden.

“I would love to see a garden where kids are inspired to grow things and where they can learn to love and appreciate nature,” Kelly said. “I know from my own gardening experience, which has only been in the last five years, it has really helped me and it keeps me active. A community garden would be of such great benefit to our seniors, too.”

Anyone interested in helping the Canyon Lake community garden become a reality can contact Kelly at 951-609-6723.
