The Wakeboard and Ski Clubs hold Polar Day in chilly lake

The Canyon Lake Wakeboard Club and the Canyon Lake Ski Club joined forces early Saturday morning to host the annual Polar Bear Day in the cold waters of the lake.

Over 60 spectators showed up throughout the day to watch 24 polar bear skiers and boarders enjoy the cold waters of the lake as they wakeboarded and skied. Those participating were meant to “enjoy” the frigid water by not wearing wetsuits. They were limited to wearing just a swimsuit.

One of the highlights of the event was the barefoot skiing of Rick Hiel, 64.

The event started at 8:00 a.m. and went until about 2:00 p.m.

Donuts, coffee, and other warm refreshments were provided around a firepit after the water play had completed.
