Last lap of 2021

Friday Flyer photo contributor Alan Coffield opted to take his exercise routine to the lake after COVID-19 shut down the gyms he would frequent. In addition to snapping picturesque photos for the newspaper, Alan set a goal of doing a lap around the lake six days a week for a total of 1,000 miles for the year. In the photo above, Alan just finished his last lap of the year. He ended up with over 1,200 miles and was on the water 363 out of 365 days. He alternated every day between his rowboat and a kayak. He’s justifiably proud of the accomplishment. “Not bad for an old man with chronic knee, hip and back issues,” Alan said. “I used to have a sometimes debilitating back flare up every four to six weeks, but being on the lake everyday has strengthened my ‘core’ (lower back) muscles and actually kept me on my feet.”
