County moves Canyon Lake to new district

In a vote by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, the City of Canyon Lake was moved from Kevin Jeffries District 1 to Karen Spiegel’s District 2. The new district separates Canyon Lake from neighboring Quail Valley and shifts it into a district composed primarily of Lake Elsinore and Corona/Norco.

Every 10 years, in conjunction with the new United States Census, the county is required by law to rework the district boundaries to balance populations and ethnicity among other requirements.

Kevin, who has been Canyon Lake’s supervisor for years and is a long-time Southwest Riverside County resident, had announced his retirement from the board and would not seek reelection. He and his family are moving out of state. The redistricting accelerates Canyon Lake losing Kevin as its supervisor.

Karen is the current Chair of the board and the former mayor of the City of Corona. Her District 2 new boundaries include: Canyon Lake, Corona, Coronita, Eastvale, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Home Gardens, Jurupa Valley (split), Lake Elsinore, Lake Mathews, Lakeland Village, Norco, Temescal Valley, Warm Springs, and Woodcrest.
