Toys gathered after Street Carts Parade

Canyon Lakers festively decorated themselves and their golf carts and paraded down Canyon Lake Drive Sunday much to the enjoyment of those who lined the street to celebrate and cheer the participants of the annual Canyon Lake Street Carts Christmas Parade and Toy Drive.

The decorated golf carts lined up on Bluebird Drive and at 5:00 p.m. they began their descent onto the parade route down Canyon Lake Drive toward Eastport Park where the parade ended.

Toy donations were accepted as both an “entry fee” from those driving carts and from myriad Canyon Lakers wishing to contribute to the cause. The donated toys will be given to Victory Calvary Chapel . There is still time to contribute toys. New and unwrapped toys can be dropped off in a drop box at 22055 Mustang Court until Wednesday. The toy box is checked daily. Monetary donations are also being solicited. For those wishing to make these donations, they can call Mike Shroyer at 951-244-6461. Mike is the founder and president of the Street Carts of Canyon Lake Club that puts on the parade and toy drive.

Although the parade has become a staple of the holiday season in the community, Mike said the whole purpose of the event is the accompanying toy drive.

“The Street Carts of Canyon Lake Club is much more than a group of people with golf carts,” Mike said. “Its values are based on the notion of families helping families while emphasizing the neighborly values in Canyon Lake.”

Awards were presented for the best-decorated carts in the following categories: Best Lights, Best Theme, Most Outrageous and Toy Donations.
