Women’s Golf Club hosting ‘Trees for Troops”tournament to benefit the military

Christmas trees for members of the military will be provided from the proceeds of both a Canyon Lake Women’s Golf Club tournament to be held Nov. 20 and donations made at the Pro Shop.

The club is also looking for donations outside of the tournament to go toward the purchase of these trees. Donations for the cause can be made by going to the Canyon Lake Golf Pro Shop at the Country Club. A box in the Pro Shop is set up to accept donation checks (made out to “Canyon Lake Women’s Golf Club”).

“Trees for Troops” is a national organization that provides Christmas trees to the military and will receive the funds raised by the tournament.

The golf club is encouraging members of the various Canyon Lake golf clubs to participate in the charitable tournament that will take place on Nov. 20. The tournament is set for the Canyon Lake Golf Course and will have a Jack ‘n Jill and Jill ‘n Jill format.

A sign up sheet to enter the tournament is available at the Canyon Lake Pro Shop. Participants must have a handicap to play in the tournament.

Community Theatre Club to hold election

The Canyon Lake Community Theatre Club’s board elections will take place Wednesday and those interested in joining the club or interested in running for a position on the board, should attend the meeting.

“We would like any and all who want to be a part of our amazing organization to please attend our meeting,” the club’s Stephanie Vecchione said. “The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 17) at the East Port annex building.”

Local salon holding Thanksgiving Food Drive

A Thanksgiving Food Drive is being organized by Canyon Lake Hair Design, a salon located in the Canyon Lake Town Center, and it is seeking the community’s help. The food drive will run through Nov. 22.

Sarah Danylo, who works for the salon as a stylist, is behind the launching of the food drive. She has worked with various food drives for the past 12 years which have helped families with Christmas and other giving functions.

“I didn’t grow up poor, but I know others aren’t as fortunate to always have food on their tables, gifts under their trees, or being able to take a small day trip to Disneyland,” Sarah said. “With the pandemic last year, and many losing their jobs and falling on hard times, I thought doing a food drive this year for Thanksgiving would be a great way to support Canyon Lakers who may need a little boost.”

The Salon is looking to fill 10 boxes to donate to local families in Canyon Lake. If there is a surplus, Sarah said the donations will go to neighboring communities to help their families who may need a little assistance.

In addition to seeking those who can donate for the food drive, the salon is also looking for those who may need the help.

“The employees of Canyon Lake Hair Design know that asking for help isn’t always easy,” salon owner Debra Emmerson said. “If you or your family are in need, you can simply call the shop and give your address and a meal will be dropped off at your door.”

Debra said if they come up short on turkeys, she will personally donate additional turkeys to help complete the meals. Frozen turkeys cannot be stored, so if donating a turkey, the shop asks that they be dropped off on Nov. 22.

The salon has put together a calendar of food and drop-off days for specific items in an effort to not have too many of one thing and not enough of another.

Guild Queen Nation Concert sold out

Queen Nation, the number one Queen tribute band in the country, is coming to Canyon Lake on Nov. 21 and is the biggest show the Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild has hosted in the last several years. Its popularity is confirmed by the concert being completely sold out for almost two years.

Those with tickets will attend the 7:00 p.m. concert in the Holiday Bay Room of the Canyon Lake Lodge. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Guild members are invited to a pre-concert reception at 5:30 p.m.

“Queen Nation is the West Coast’s longest running most authentic fully costumed re-creation of a vintage Queen concert,” Guild President Bonnie Dubbs said.

“The show consists of four musicians who all sing and perform in character and in period costumes while playing live note-for-note renditions of Classic Queen songs.”

Queen Nation put on 150 shows across the United States in 2019. The band was recently inducted into the California Music Hall of Fame’s 2020 inaugural class and voted The Best Live Band at the 2020 VCMAs.
