LL team promotes cancer awareness

The Canyon Lake Little League 12U Majors team was spotlighted in the American Cancer Fighter Facebook page recently for their support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The team showed support by wearing American Cancer Fighter gear during a recent game.

“Big shoutout to the Canyon Lake Little League 12U Majors team California District 28 Little League for their show of support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and rocking their American Cancer Fighter gear on the ball field,” the post read.

October is Breast Cancer awareness month, so Eric Frega, father to one of the players, thought this would be a great opportunity for the team to not only show its support for Breast Cancer awareness, but to raise awareness for the community.

Eric is the founder of American Cancer Fighter.org, a 501C3 organization. At just 29 years old, Eric was diagnosed with a type of skin cancer. He says that it was due to awareness and prevention along with education that saved his life.

Eric is passionate about his foundation and said that the reason he wanted the kids involved in showing their support is because as young boys, they all have mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts and other family members and friends, some of whom may have been lost to breast cancer or any other type of cancer.

“Breast cancer isn’t something that is generally talked about with young boys,” he said. “By getting the team involved and showing support, it also helps educate them and make them aware of this horrible disease where one in six women will be diagnosed in their lifetime.”

The American Cancer Foundation isn’t just about breast cancer, but all cancers. As a Marine veteran, Eric wants to make it where education, prevention and support are always available.

The Little League team was excited to be a part of showing their support for Breast Cancer awareness as well as memorializing those that have lost their battle to this disease, Eric said. The team will continue to wear their hats through the month of October.
