Hundreds jam into Indian Beach for fun Rocktoberfest

The Canyon Lake Junior Women’s Club hosted its annual Rocktoberfest Saturday at Indian Beach to raise funds for the club’s philanthropy and scholarship initiatives. Hundreds of Canyon Lake residents came out to enjoy music, fun and a little beer tasting.

Beer tasting cards were sold at the check-in station, where the club treasurer and city councilmember Jennifer Dain, club past president Iris Stricklin and committee member Debra Grey sold approximately 500 tasting cards for $25.00 for two tastings at each brewery.

Those who didn’t purchase a tasting card, purchased beverages such as champagne, wine, light beer and Michelada at the Champagne Bar.

The Champagne Bar and Michelada Station was manned by the club’s president Jonda Morton, her vice president Heather Rose, committee chair Blair Avery and club member Dana Woosley.

Breweries who were represented at Rocktoberfest were Inland Wharf, Craft Brewery, Mash Masters Brew Club, Mason Jar, Belching Beaver, Stadium Pizza and Brewery and BJ’s Brewhous.

A fun wiener dog race that was coordinated by Amanda Lowrey took place in front of a huge crowd that cheered on the four-legged little pups as they raced their way to the finish line.

The Rocktoberfest event was a huge undertaking that was followed by success, Jonda said. On the day of the event, club members, along with many of the husbands, worked the entire 12-hour day, from set up to tear down.

Christy Williams coordinated all of the permits and recruited vendors.

“This was no small feat with the JWC members managing every part of planning,” Jonda said. “They obtained permits and an ABC license, mapped out the park, recruited vendors, marketed the event and so much more in their free time. I’m not sure there are enough words to express how touched I am by the huge hearts and dedication of our Rocktoberfest committee.”

The event was not only successful, but universally loved by the community, Jonda said.

“I’d like to express a special thank you to the husbands and families of all the club members who came out to work the event,” she said. “These people worked booths, took multiple trips outside the park for supplies, showed up at sunrise to set up and stayed until after sunset to help clean up and tear down. The club could not have done it without them.”

The Junior Women’s Club would also like to thank the community for coming out and showing its support for the club and its purpose.
