Cruzin’ 4 a Cure breast cancer awareness cart parade next week

A golf cart parade entitled Cruzin’ 4 a Cure is scheduled to take place Oct. 9 to bring awareness to Breast Cancer. All community members are being invited to participate in the parade, which will begin at Holiday Harbor and trek to Happy Camp and back to Holiday Harbor.

The event will not only bring awareness to breast cancer, but will raise funds for Michelle’s Place, a local not-for-profit organization that provides free, full service resources for individuals and families who are dealing with cancer.

The parade is the brainchild of Canyon Lake’s Debra Foland after she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

“My blessing surpassed any of the trials and tribulations of fighting it,” Debra said. “One of my blessings is this community. Due to last year’s COVID-19 quarantine, my friends decided to throw me a parade to celebrate finishing chemotherapy.”

She said the community response was so substantial that she and her friends decided to make the parade a yearly Canyon Lake event.

Awards will be given to the parade participants in Best Dressed, Best Decorated Golf Cart and Best Fight Song categories.

The parade lineup begins at 9:00 a.m. at Holiday Harbor. A photo op will take place at 9:30 a.m. and then the parade begins at 10:00 a.m. After returning to Holiday Harbor a Karaoke Contest will take place where participants will bring their best fight son to sing.

Due to the delicate nature of the event, and to be able to include immunocompromised individuals, Debra is recommending the wearing of masks and practicing social distancing throughout the day’s events.
