Club Pub Crawl hits five spots

The Canyon Lake Newbies & Social Club, organized to help those new to town find friends, had dozens of golf carts take part in its Golf Cart Pub Crawl Saturday night.

More than 80 club members hopped in golf carts and slowly made their way to five different Canyon Lake businesses. At each stop, socializing took place as well as prizes were raffled off that had been donated by local businesses.

This was the club’s 13th event designed to help neighbors become friends by socializing together. The purpose of the club still includes introducing newbies to the community, but has taken on an expanded purpose of bringing all of Canyon Lake’s neighbors together.

Golf carts began arriving at the first stop, the Canyon Lake Golf and Country Club, around 6:00 p.m. This was the first of five stops. In addition to the prizes being raffled off, participants enjoyed drinks while getting to know each other.

After cocktails and raffle prizes, the caravan of golf carts rolled out to PZA Oven Fired Goodness restaurant in the Canyon Lake Town Center where many club members not only enjoyed beverages, but PZA’s pizza.

From there the group walked down to nearby Sports Stop, then caravaned over for dancing at Canyon Cowboy before ending the evening at Pepe’s Cantina.

A DJ played dance hits and the final raffle prizes were won by a lucky few from the valiant 50-plus club members who made it to all five stops.

“Moving to Canyon Lake three years ago has truly improved our lives for the better and blown our minds,” Club Co-founder Bradley Morton said. “We have never seen any place else like it and view this community and the people in it as irreplaceable. We have been so lucky to meet so many neighbors who have become truly valued friends.”

Helping Bradley and co-founder Jonda Morton with the raffle prize drawing was Canyon Lake POA Board Director Tim Cook.

“This simply was an amazing way for Canyon Lakers to meet one another while spending a Saturday night out sampling five different Canyon Lake establishments,” Tim said. “Think about it. When was the last time you visited the Golf Country Club, PZA, Sports Stop, Canyon Cowboy and Pepe’s on a Saturday night? Well, they were all popping and it sure beats going to Pechanga or some other place…and it keeps our money local.”

This rather new club has been a hit and has added to the social lives of Canyon Lakers. As of this writing there are 777 members and growing by the day, Bradley said.

Past events that have been put on by the Newbie’s Club have included boat tie-ups and beach parties, multiple Sunday brunches, cocktail meet and greet mixers, a family fall picnic where attendees assembled care packages for troops overseas and two comedy nights.

The events the club has put on have proven to be extremely popular with great attendance. A comedy night at the Sports Stop raised over $11,000 for a local cancer patient’s medical expenses.

“Organizing and sometimes sponsoring these events is simply our way of giving back and saying a heartfelt thank you to everyone here,” Bradley said. “Now that Canyon Lakers have found their community, they need to find their people. Events like this help us get to know our neighbors and those within our community.”

“The club is simply neighbors helping neighbors while getting to know each other and having a blast,” Jonda said. “This is what community means to us.”

For those interested in joining in on the fun of events similar to the Golf Cart Pub Crawl this past Saturday night, Jonda said the way to join is to search on Facebook for the group Canyon Lake Newbie Social Club.

“I think it is pretty cool what the Canyon Lake Newbie’s and Social Club is doing for the community,” Tim said. “I’m looking forward to the club’s next comedy night benefitting the Junior Woman’s Club in October.”

The numerous raffle prizes during the five-stop Golf Cart Pub Crawl were donated by Jay Zier of Zier Pools and Outdoor Living, Mike Simms of Real Deals, Libby Vine and John Cranny of Solar Going Up, Joe and Shannon Luna of PZA Oven Fired Goodness, Canyon Lake Golf and Country Club, The Canyon Cowboy, Pepe’s Cantina and Bradley and Jonda Morton of Canyon Lake’s Coldwell Banker Associated Brokers.
