EVMWD Notes

Canyon Lake EVMWD customer spotlighted

Providing exceptional customer service is a top priority for EVMWD. No matter what need arises, each member of our team is dedicated to listening closely and providing strategic solutions.

Ruben Gonzalez, a Canyon Lake resident, witnessed that commitment in May when he experienced low water pressure at his home and called the District hoping to find a solution. Numerous plumbers had visited his hillside home, but explanations of the problem varied and he received no definitive answer to the problem.

EVMWD’s Water Operations Manager researched the situation, taking the time to explore potential solutions and explaining the water distribution system to Ruben. Two members of the Field Maintenance team then visited his home to check the meter box valves.

“The meter showed normal pressure for the location, but the EVMWD employees had ideas for some plumbing work that I could undertake to increase water pressure and they helped me develop an action plan,” he said.

Ruben was extremely satisfied with the experience and had great things to say about District staff.

“Talk about excellent service, it’s been a long time since I’ve dealt with a public agency that provided such extraordinary customer service,” Ruben said. “EVMWD’s team did a fantastic job of addressing the situation in a diplomatic, caring manner.”

Turf replacement rebate

Removing turf grass is one of the most water-wise choices customers can make to significantly reduce outdoor water use and associated costs.

EVMWD’s Turf Replacement Program uses a multi-pronged approach to maximize water savings through grass removal, upgrading irrigation systems, better use of rainwater, and highlighting the beauty of California friendly plants.

Turf replacement rebates are $2.25 per square foot for up to 5,000 square feet and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Drought preparedness pays off as another drought hits

After two dry winters with historically low rain and snowfall, California is facing another drought. During the last drought, EVMWD customers made conservation a way of life, adopting water-wise practices, and taking advantage of rebates for high-efficiency appliances and devices.

Over the last two decades, average water consumption in our service area has declined by more than 50 percent. Even when there isn’t a formal drought declaration, it is always important to be water efficient to protect current and future water supplies.

EVMWD is well prepared for this year’s critically dry conditions, thanks to sound planning and investments in local supplies. We continue to plan for droughts and unpredictable weather patterns by modernizing our facilities and investing in projects to maintain and increase water supply reliability. Some of that work includes replenishing the groundwater basins, expanding use of recycled water for irrigation, and drilling new wells.

In addition, major investments by our wholesaler, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, have significantly improved regional storage conditions.

But preserving our water supply is up to all of us, and it takes only small changes to make a big difference. You can help by installing drip irrigation and using a smart irrigation controller outside, and taking shorter showers and running only full loads of clothes and laundry indoors. These efforts will help us ensure water is always available when you need it.

Annual EVMWD water quality reportavailable

Each year, EVMWD publishes its Water Quality Report (also known as the Consumer Confidence Report) with details on our water sources, testing and treatment processes, and more.

The report summarizes data from more than 20,000 tests and shows how EVMWD meets – and exceeds – local, state, and federal regulations for drinking water. The report also includes team member spotlights, details on capital improvement projects, and helpful conservation tips.Visit www.evmwd.com/waterquality to view the report online.
