CL Boy Scout holding garage sale fundraiser

Canyon Lake Boy Scout Hayden Dalton needs funds in order to finance his Eagle Project of building various structures at the local animal shelter, Animal Friends of the Valleys. The fundraiser consists of a garage sale today (Friday) and tomorrow at 22636 Pin Tail.

In addition to the funds raised at the garage sale, he is accepting all donations and sellable items.

In order to earn the Eagle Rank, a boy scout needs to complete an Eagle Project. Hayden’s Eagle Scout project is centered around helping the animals of his community through Animal Friends of the Valleys, which provides animal shelter services for the City of Canyon Lake as well as other area cities.

The projects Hayden is planning consist of four different improvement projects to meet the ongoing needs of the shelter.

First, he is going to install dog leash racks to help with the organization in the shelter’s office area.

Second, he will be building a new podium that the shelter needs for press conferences, educational tours, and teaching seminars. The podium will be on wheels and will be the first thing people will see when they walk into the building. It will have a clear acrylic top and a new welcome sign mounted to the front.

Third, he is going to use existing materials and some newly-purchased hardware, to create an 8-foot by 8-foot enclosure for the shelter’s medium-sized farm animals, including large pigs, goats and sheep. This will be located at the rear of the property.

Lastly, he will be constructing three kitten nursing feeders to address the vital need the shelter has in feeding the new kittens during birthing season.

“Overall, this Eagle Project will create a more functional, beautiful, and safe environment for the rescued animals in my area,” Hayden said. “I am looking forward to leading my troop in making a difference in such a needed part of my growing community.”

Animal Friends of the Valleys is grateful to Hayden and is eager to have these projects completed, Hayden said.

“I am honored to be able to help them complete these goals,” the Boy Scout from Troop 2011 said. “And I am looking forward to achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.”
