Grads receive unique scholarships

Two Canyon Lake new high school graduates received The Proactive Legal Bock Law Group’s Proactive Hero Scholarship, which was open to students who are embarking into the military or the first responder fields.

“My wife, Judith, and I wanted to award these scholarships to students who will be taking nontraditional routes,” Brian Bock said. “These students are tremendously hardworking and deserve our support.”

The law firm awarded the scholarships to the two applicants after the Canyon Lake Veterans and First Responders Club Independence Day Ruck March on Saturday. The firm sponsored breakfast for the runners and provided orange juice and donuts.

Nolan Smith was awarded the $500 Platinum scholarship. He plans to pursue a career in Fish and Game. Nolan has always had a passion for hunting and fishing. His father was a first responder, which inspired him to join this line of work.

Andrew Grau was awarded the $250 Diamond scholarship. Andrew hopes to become a firefighter and has always admired firefighters, he said. Andrew felt inspired to become a firefighter after putting out a fire in his home last year and receiving help from the first responders who arrived.

“Our law firm will definitely do this again next year,” Brian said. “We had amazing applicants. It is important to support our students who will be protecting us.”
