Club looking for help to put on Grad Parade

Last year, smack dab in the middle of the pandemic, schools were closed and all in-person school activities were canceled, including once-in-a-lifetime graduations. The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club sprang into action and put on a massively-successful and physically-distanced Grad Parade for Canyon Lake’s high school and college graduates.

With some schools resuming in-person graduation ceremonies this month, the Family Matters Club is going to build upon its COVID-19 idea of last year and continue the grad parades in Canyon Lake. The club is seeking supporters and participants to bring the parade back.

“We are calling all Canyon Lakers,” Shawna Bowen, the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club founder, said.  “We are looking for at least 10 supporters to help make this event even more amazing than last year.”

These supporters, she said, could be families of grads, clubs and Canyon Lake businesses. The parade will take place this month and the route will be from Eastport to Holiday Harbor with a Grand Finale Surprise there, Shawna said.

Those interested in offering financial and other support should contact Donna Lovejoy at (951) 970-6628 to be part of the new grad parade tradition in Canyon Lake.

In the meantime, families with graduates should make sure that their high school and college grads are signed up for a parade spot by visiting the club’s website at familymattersclub.org.
