Tennis Club plays in Palm Desert

The Canyon Lake Tennis Club took its annual trek to Palm Desert’s Shadow Mountain Resort for a weekend of tennis competition amongst themselves. The weekend included member tennis tournaments on Saturday and Sunday, along with a cocktail party, potluck and fun at the resort’s pool.

Team Red Sox won the Saturday tournament. Members of the team were Laural Bird, Nancy Contreras, Danette Conlin, Bill Conlin, Erin Furlong, Billy Furlong, Dave Martilla, Tom Bol and Jeananne Woodman.

The Sunday tournament was won by Team Babolats. Those on the winning team were John Sell, Julie Sell, Andrea Bohn, Valerie Thompson, Tom Bol, Rihanna Thompson, Jully Martilla and A.J. Nevarez.

“The annual Canyon Lake Tennis Club event at Shadow Mountain was great fun and a huge success,” Bill Colin, president of the club, said. “The weather was perfect; the variety of tennis events that our Head Pro Bobby Kielty put together were fun and competitive for us all.”

The club also held its first wooden racquet tennis tournament, which Bill described as a “blast from the past.” The winners of the wooden racquet tournament were Andrea Bohn and Mike Porter. “Our club’s retreat enables our Canyon Lake Community to enjoy fun competition and to get to know our friends and neighbors a little better,” Bill said. “The event draws us all a little closer as a community.”
