The Friday Flyer to publish Pet Memorials

The Friday Flyer will begin publishing Pet Memorials for those in Canyon Lake who have lost their pets and wish to honor their lives through an obituary in the newspaper. These full-color photos and write-ups will be printed in a new regular Pet Memorials column.

“We’ve had several requests for these memorials over the years, but especially of late,” Chuck Golding, The Friday Flyer publisher, said. “We think our readers will enjoy reading the writeups about the pets of their friends and neighbors.”

Pet Memorials will need to be submitted to the newspaper by uploading the text and photo on The Friday Flyer website or by emailing them to news@goldingpublications.com. The cost for publishing the memorials is $50.00 and includes up to 350 words and one photo.

Here are some tips for writing the pet memorial.

Pet memorials should start with a brief announcement of the animal’s demise and a disclosure of any funeral service/memorial arrangements (if applicable). For example:

The John and Susan Coopers regret to announce the death of their beloved dog, Bella, who passed away on Jan. 15 after a brief illness. She was laid to rest in the family garden. All who would like to say their final goodbyes to Bella are invited to a short memorial on Jan. 28 at 4:00 p.m..

It is also recommended to include the high points of your pet’s life including divulging personal favorite memories. For example:

We will miss finding Max snuggled under the bed covers alongside the kids on a cold night. Neither will we forget how much he loved to sneak around the house at night and make a mess of things.

Family members, friends and other pets who shared in the pet’s life can be acknowledged. For example:

Fluffy’s life and moments will always be fondly remembered by the Chandler girls, Sarah and Michelle and her sister-in-fur, Kelsey.

The memorial can be wrapped up by emphasizing the pet’s individuality, extraordinary attributes and its influence and significance in your life. For example:

Lucy was an adorable and sweet dog all through the eight years of her life. She loved to bask in the sun, cuddle up to people and nothing pleased her more than gentle backstrokes. She will be greatly cherished and her time spent with us will never be forgotten.

A message of gratitude acknowledging the support of the people who have been around can be included. For example:

We want to thank everyone who has shown us the utmost support and love in this time of mourning. Your show of concern has helped us carry on in this time of grief. It did not go unnoticed. Thank you very much.

Of course, these are just suggestions. Whatever the person writing the memorial wishes to convey, can be included in the writeup. They can be as customized and unique as the animal for whom the memorial honors.
