Canyon Lake’s Day of Prayer Thursday

Canyon Lake will celebrate its eighth annual National Day of Prayer May 6 after being forced to skip last year’s event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the program will take place at the Canyon Lake Community Church.

A group of local churches, including Canyon Lake Community Church, Center Church, New Hope Community Church, Lamb’s Fellowship, Canyon Lake Torah Club and others will participate. Although the event is free, registration is required to attend.

City of Canyon Lake Mayor Kasey Castillo will be leading the prayer for the Police, Fire and EMT. Jeremy Smith, Mayor Pro Tem, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. As duty permits, police officers, firefighters and Department of Defense personnel will be in attendance.

Canyon Lake Community Church Pastor Pete Van Dyke will give an address on healing. Rabbi Steven Epstein will deliver a prayer for Israel. Prayers for the children will come from the tiny students of the Canyon Lake Community Church Preschool.

Pastors Dave Dick, Derek Singer, Thor Ramsay, Chris Suitt, Brian Crawford and Mike Chong Perkinson will lead prayers. Dee Zasio, widow of Lt. Col. Art Zasio (USMC) will lead a prayer for veterans and their families.

Kylene Evans, who has played for all of the previous Day of Prayer events, will play her new full-size harp. Lane McKellar will be the master of ceremonies.

The committee organizing the event includes Canyon Lake Community Church, Canyon Lake Lioness, Chair: Nancy Horton, Treasurer: Joanna Spiller, Tickets: Lynda Ofstad, and members: Shirley and Marvin Webster, Ted Horton, Lynda and Cort Ofstad, Jack and Alice Gray, Joan Ellett and Becky Watson.
