CLPOA candidates hold online YouTube Q&A forum

The campaign for the election of three of the five members of the Canyon Lake POA Board of Directors is in full swing and the candidates are eager to introduce themselves to the thousands of POA members who have a vote. With COVID-19 restrictions in place, POA-sanctioned clubs got creative and have taped a virtual Speak to the Candidates Forum that, effective today, is available for viewing on YouTube.

For decades, a POA candidates forum has been conducted to help introduce candidates to the Canyon Lake public. For years, the Canyon Lake Homeowners Club put on the event, but with the club disbanding last year, the clubs sanctioned by the Canyon Lake POA have stepped up and are putting on the event.

The Speak to the Candidates Forum, a non-partisan event, sponsored by the POA Sanctioned Clubs, is now posted as a YouTube video on the Friday Flyer Facebook Page as well as on FridayFlyer.com.

Due to the pandemic, this meeting will not be conducted in the Lodge as in the past. And, instead of homeowners asking the questions to the six candidates, a panel of Club Presidents will lead the candidate discussion.

Each year, the goal has been to present this session prior to the ballots being mailed to the homeowners, which this year is planned for Monday. The two-hour Zoom Meeting will be pre-recorded and available for viewing at Canyon Lake resident convenience any time on or after today.

The completed ballots, which may be returned anytime, must be received by May 13. If sent by mail, the ballots should be mailed by May 7.

Over the last several years, the Speak to the Candidates Forum has been a way for the community to see and hear the candidates “up close and personal” and learn what they hope to accomplish if elected. The YouTube video attempts to provide the next-best thing to being there.

There are six candidates running for the Canyon Lake POA Board. Two-term director Tom Nathan “termed out” and is no longer eligible to run, while one-term director Jeanne O’Dell decided not to run for a second term. Current president Chris Poland is running for a second term. There are three open seats on the Canyon Lake POA Board.

Those who are running for the three two-year term positions are Brian Bock, Timothy Cook, Chris Poland, Carl Garner, Bradley Foland and Renee Griffiths. (The order of the candidates listed by the Canyon Lake POA was randomly selected by the Inspectors of Elections).
