Geese eggs destroyed by playing children

With the mother goose squealing in desperation, a group of unsupervised children destroyed a batch of eggs Monday at a park near the Lodge.

“I was with some friends enjoying our day, and I looked over to where six kids about 8-to-10 years old were laughing as they tossed the eggs of a goose,” Canyon Lake resident Laurie Harper said. “They were waving the eggs in their friends’ faces. No adults were supervising the kids.”

Laurie said she yelled across the sidewalk for them to leave the eggs alone. The mother goose was crying loudly as they cracked many of the eggs, she said.

“I told the kids they had killed her babies,” Laurie said. “They laughed and ran down the sidewalk towards the playground equipment.”

Laurie took a photo of the remaining eggs, but could not catch the children who had smashed the eggs or locate their parents. She said she couldn’t identify the children because they were wearing just bathing suits.

“The eggs were so large, and I’m guessing many of the kids playing in that area had played with the broken eggs,” she said. “Those kids need to be located and educated. They had no remorse for breaking all those eggs and just laughed it off. It was horrible listening to the mother goose letting out these screeching noises. It was very sad.”
