Danny Batinich, Sportsman of the Year

Danny Batinich was awarded the 2020 Canyon Lake Sportsman of the Year on Saturday by the Canyon Lake Bassmasters Club.

Danny is Secretary of the Bassmasters Club and has been a member of the club since 1997.

“He loves being a part of the club and fished as much as he could,” his wife Jill Batinich said. “He was having a great year until he suffered a stroke on Dec. 18, but that didn’t slow him down. He fished both the January and February tournaments.”

POA agrees to new Community Patrol Services contract

The Canyon Lake POA has contracted with G4S Secure Solutions (G4S) to provide community patrol services beginning March 15. The contract for G4S to provide community patrol services in Canyon Lake will be for three years, ending on February 29, 2024.

In Canyon Lake, the primary function of Community and Marine Patrol is to provide the community with services that include access control at the entry gates, Rules & Regulations compliance, incident observation and reporting to the Canyon Lake POA.

These services do not replace the services of outside public safety agencies such as the City of Canyon Lake law enforcement, fire services, medical services, city code enforcement, etc.

G4S is the leading global security company, specializing in the provision of security services and solutions to customers, the Canyon Lake POA said. G4S is active in 80 countries and has 533,000 employees.

“G4S will ensure the continuity of community patrol services in Canyon Lake including, but not limited to, providing gate attendants, call center, dispatch and community patrol services within the properties and amenities managed by the Canyon Lake POA,” the association said.

POA discusses rule changes

The monthly Canyon Lake Property Owners Association meeting was held Tuesday where various rule revisions were discussed. The revisions were previously introduced during past Board Meetings as 28-Day Rule Revisions. They were tabled for additional revisions based on the member comments received and the subsequent board discussion.

The board said these rules will not be approved until the March Board Meeting to allow the board to receive additional member comments.

Recreational Vehicle and Trailer Parking on the Streets. The board seeks to clarify the current rule and find a balance between the need to have access to these vehicles while being loaded and unloaded and the impact they have on available parking, traffic flow and safety.

Trailer Parking after Sunset. Based on member requests, the board seeks to relax the current rule as a means to accommodate the need for overnight trailer parking that includes horse, boat, utility trailers and any other similar vehicle.

North Ski Lake Rules. The board seeks to find a way to balance the need to provide safe use guidelines and protect the unrestricted use of the Slalom Course by water-skiers while accommodating the growing number of watersports and boats that support them.

Discussion Related to Signs, Flags, Posters and Banners. To date, the Canyon Lake POA Board has received over 30 emails from more than 20 members related to the volume, appearance and content of political signs, flags and banners.

All emails received suggested that changes are needed in the rules that would clarify that “signs” include posters, flags and banners, that time limits be set to maintain the peaceful and welcoming sense of the community and that rules be added to avoid unnecessary blight.

Simultaneously, posts to various social media sites continuously declare that it is a member’s right to display whatever they want on their personal property.

The board said it recognizes that Canyon Lake is a diverse suburban community that is transitioning from a vacation and retirement community. The board sees this as an issue of personal freedom of expression balanced by the desire to maintain community aesthetics. The board said it is considering possible additions and changes to Canyon Lake POA rules related to all types of signs, flags, banners and posters and is seeking broader insights from its members.

No rule changes are being proposed at this time, the board said. Rule revisions will be developed and introduced as 28-Day Readings at the next meeting, if appropriate.
