Bassmasters team wins tournament by 2 ounces

The most exciting time of the day was watching the weigh-in. Teams had their five biggest bass weighed and the first place team of Sam Bush and Jeremy Evans won by a mere 2.24 ounces. The year’s first Canyon Lake Bassmasters tournament was held Saturday.

“It’s been a tough year for all of us,” club historian Jude Donahue said. “Living in our Little Bit of Paradise surely has helped many of us cope with this most unusual year.”

Joe Merrill hauled in the day’s biggest catch by catching this 5.08 lbs. bass at the Canyon Lake Bassmaster January tournament. Joe was also on the third place team.

Sitting in boats out on the waters of Canyon Lake can help these avid fishing experts forget, if but for a moment, the disruptive pandemic. The tournament had 13 boats and 23 anglers participate.

Jon Kimble and Jim Wright’s best five fish caught at the Bassmaster January Tournament weighed in at 17.60 lbs. and earned them 2nd Place.

The team of Sam Bush and Jeremy Evans took first place. Their best five fish totaled 17.74 lbs., just shy of the 17.60 lbs. caught by second place Jon Kimble and Jim Wright. The third place team of Joe Merrill and Chuck Moreno finished right behind those two teams with a total catch of 17.32 lbs.

Joe Merrill won the Big Fish Award with a single bass catch of 5.08 lbs.
