Club Christmas trees adorn CL Drive South

There haven’t always been decorated Christmas trees lined up one after another on the median as cars enter the community through the Main Gain during the holidays. It was the Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild and some of its legacy members that proposed the idea to the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association about a dozen years ago.

“The late Dorothy Cable presented the idea to the POA, teaming up with husband Ken, Carolyn and Vick Knight and Leigh Martel and myself on the idea of welcoming guests with the holiday spirit,” Ron Martel, the outgoing president of the Guild, said. “The POA agreed to her proposal and immediately offered its full support.”

The Canyon Lake POA installs the decorated trees the clubs provide.

“Only a handful of trees were displayed that first year, but it took off after that and is now a Canyon Lake tradition,” Ken said. “I’m very honored the Guild will display a tree once again.”

This year, there have already been 16 clubs that have committed to providing decorated trees. The Canyon Lake POA is in the process of installing them.

Early in the week, trees were in the media for the K9 Club, Canyon Lake Women’s Golf club, Wakeboard Club, Lions and Lioness Club, Yacht Club and Roadrunner Club.

“This time-honored tradition in the community highlights the many clubs that support the Canyon Lake community,” Erica Toney, from the Canyon Lake POA Activities Department, said. “The trees will remain up until the first week of the New Year.”
