Attempted murder filed for CL Town Center gun shots

Despite nobody being hit by a volley of bullets shot early Friday morning, a Wildomar man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly discharged his weapon in the Canyon Lake Town Center.

Canyon Lake Police said Cody Hill, 39, discharged the weapon in a negligent manner and in the direction of others who were present near the Sports Stop Pub & Grill at approximately 1:20 a.m., according to Sergeant Lionel Murphy of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Media Information Bureau. No one was injured during the incident.

Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots at the time, many stating the gunfire woke them up. When Canyon Lake deputies arrived on the scene of the incident, the suspect had already fled. The suspect was quickly identified as Hill, who lives on Jennifer Drive in Wildomar.

Only a little over two hours later, Hill was located at his residence and was arrested, police said, without incident. He was charged with felony attempted murder, felony discharge of firearms in a negligent manner and felony assault with a deadly weapon. Special circumstances bail was set at $1 million. He is being held at the Murrieta Southwest Justice Center.

The Lake Elsinore Investigations Bureau and the Problem Oriented Policing Team assisted in the investigation and served a search warrant at Hill’s residence in an effort to locate the firearm used in the Canyon Lake incident.

With the search warrant in hand, police found an arsenal of guns at the residence. Deputies located five shotguns, four handguns, a California non-compliant rifle, 11 additional rifles and over 2,500 live rounds of miscellaneous ammunition.
