Board outlines CC&R goals

To protect the appearance, view lines and property values, the Canyon Lake POA has a set of CC&Rs that were set in place over 50 years ago and represent a common promise about how the community looks and how members will behave. These rules, limitations and requirements are adjusted as times change by the POA Board.

The Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws and Rules define a community that has chosen to live in a more regulated environment related to how the association builds, maintains its properties and provides amenities.

The board said in its recap of its board meeting last week that it takes this promise seriously as it considers the comments and concerns it receives from its members, balancing the competing demands and determining how to respond.

The process begins with a public comment during its monthly meetings, an email request or a conversation. Each is catalogued and assigned to one or two of the directors to research and prepare a discussion item which is eventually included in the Board Agenda package that is available on the POA website.

The board’s response is based on what it hears and may be a proposed rule change, a project to improve the community or an explanation about why it is satisfied with the current conditions.

The board said it is sincere in its asking the community to send its opinions on these topics and any others that it may have, by emailing the board at board@canyonlakepoa.com.

Chamber invites members to door decorating contest

The Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce is inviting local businesses to join its Ghostly Gallery of Decorated Doors Contest. The creation of the event is in response to the chamber’s decision to cancel the 2020 Parade of Frights, an annual Trick or Treating event in the Canyon Lake Town Center.

Ambassadors from the Chamber of Commerce will begin visiting each local business in the Town Center on Wednesday to invite the businesses to participate in this new contest. Participants are encouraged to decorate the doors of their businesses in any spooky and creative way they’d like.

“This contest is to bring more spirit back into Canyon Lake as Halloween approaches us,” Kristina Rasband, the chamber’s Marketing and Communications Director, said. “It’s a great way to get everyone involved. We unfortunately had to cancel the Parade of Frights, so we came up with this wonderful idea to be festive amidst COVID-19 regulations.”

On Friday (Oct. 23), a poll on the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page will be opened where customers of these businesses can vote for the most “spooktacular” door. Voting will then close at 9:00 p.m. on the night of Halloween.

“We really hope everyone will be able to participate,” Kristina said. “It will be a blast.”

The lucky winner of the Ghostly Gallery of Decorated Doors will receive free advertising from the Chamber of Commerce.
