Adopting pets still available during COVID-19

Although COVID-19 has impacted the procedures at the Animal Friends of the Valleys (AFV) pet shelter that provides services for Canyon Lake, pets are still being offered for adoption and strays and owner surrenders are being accepted.

Those looking to adopt a dog or cat should first view the shelter’s adoptable pets online at animalfriendsofthevalleys.com/animals. With the pet chosen, the new owners are then to complete the appropriate adoption application online prior to visiting the shelter. AFV is limiting the number of people allowed to visit the facility.

All staff, visitors and volunteers must wear a face covering while visiting the shelter and must be in compliance in order to enter the facility.

AFV continues to accept stray animals. Contact the shelter and provide as much information as possible to increase the chances of the stray animal being reunited with its owner. For those looking for a lost pet, go to the website and see if the missing pet is listed as one that is at the shelter.

Owner surrenders continue to be accepted by the shelter.

Low-cost spaying and neutering and pet vaccinations are available by appointment only. The phone number for those appointments is 951-674-7729.

Community members who are eager to help offset the potential impact on pets related to COVID-19are encouraged to inquire about fosters. More can be learned by visiting AFV’s website.
