Military Banner Program honors CL heroes

In celebration of upcoming Veteran’s Day, The City of Canyon Lake will be putting up new military banners and is seeking members of the community who would like to recognize and pay tribute to family members who are currently serving or who have served in the military.

Along with the Military Banner Program, the city also has in the works plans for creating upcoming events and services as well.

Family members and loved ones may nominate a Canyon Lake active duty service member or veteran from any branch of the military to be honored with a street banner that includes the individual’s name and photo. The banner will be prominently displayed within Canyon Lake boundaries for two years or until the banner begins to show deterioration.

An application and a $200 fee must be turned into the city by Oct. 15 in order to make the Veteran’s Day tribute. The application can be picked up at the city or downloaded from its website.

Honorees must follow certain criteria laid out by the City of Canyon Lake, including that the person on the banner either be currently serving or who has served in the United States Armed Forces. Those being honored may also be deceased veterans.

The military honoree must be a current City of Canyon Lake resident or an immediate family member of a City of Canyon Lake resident (immediate family would include a wife or husband, son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter, son-in-law or daughter-in-law).
