POA board discusses two traffic issues

As a result of member input, the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association Board of Directors made decisions on two traffic issues at its board meeting last week.

In a response to a member concern submitted to General Manager Eric Kazakoff, the board decided to accept a staff recommendation to repaint street markings at Canyon Lake Drive South and Village Way.

The board also decided to not install a roundabout at the intersection of Canyon Lake Drive South and Continental Way.

Because of a visibility issue at Canyon Lake Drive South and Village Way, due to the curvature of Canyon Lake Drive South there, vehicles exiting the cul-de-sac portion of Village Way could not see on-coming traffic. This lack of visibility caused drivers to creep out into the traffic lane to obtain proper visibility.

A recommendation was made and accepted by the directors to apply approximately 300 feet of cross hatching at Canyon Lake Drive South. In addition, a stop bar (limit line) at Village Way will be installed which will provide drivers with a point of reference as to where they should safely stop before turning onto Canyon Lake Drive South.

In response to comments made by members regarding the feasibility of installing a roundabout at the intersection of Canyon Lake Drive South and Continental Way, the board decided to not make the change.

After listening to background information and discussing the roundabout as a possible solution, the board determined that a roundabout at the intersection would not work for a variety of reasons. The board found that there is insufficient street width to properly construct a turning radius large enough to handle all vehicles including RVs, vehicles towing trailers, large utility trucks and emergency response vehicles. Due to a lack of sidewalks, pedestrians and bicyclists would have to enter the roundabout to cross the streets. Also, parking would need to be eliminated in front of numerous residences to accommodate a roundabout there.

The POA Board of Directors reiterated that it is committed to listening to suggestions offered up by its members and asked that any recommendations be sent in an email to board@canyonlakepoa.com.
