Educator trying to connect teachers with at-home kids

Greg Keele

As virtual learning approaches, parents and teachers are working to adapt so that students still receive quality learning time. Canyon Lake residents have been stepping up to help and Greg Keele is one such volunteer.

Greg, a teacher at California Virtual Academies, created the Canyon Lake Educators Exchange website to connect educators and tutors with the students who are seeking their services. On this website, educators and students can register for the program by answering some basic questions about their needs on a Google form link. Greg will keep this information confidential and use it to match students with educators.

“The goal of this project is to connect Canyon Lake students and their families with educators in the city who are willing and able to help out with this difficult task of distance learning,” Greg said. “I designed this project to organize this process and make it so everyone can find the right match when it comes to tutors, educational assistants, group leaders and the like.”

The program is open to strictly Canyon Lake students who reside in Canyon Lake. They can be attending schools anywhere. There are currently 82 students and 19 teachers registered. The deadline to register as a student is Aug. 7 at 11:59 pm. Teachers or anyone who has experience with childcare are needed and can apply on a rolling basis. “The only thing you have to do is register using the link, and I will do all the technical gadgetry to figure out how to connect you all,” Greg said. “Soon we will connect families with educators and reinvent how to do distance learning.”
